Description
Apple’s full-sized keyboard now comes with Touch ID, providing fast, easy and secure authentication as well as a Pro color scheme with black keys.
Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad is the the top productivity keyboard available for your Mac, and delivers the comfortable and smooth typing experience that Apple users have come to love.
The keyboard is made from a brush metal aluminum top plate, with plastic bottom case like with the previous generation of Magic Keyboard. The keyboard is as slim and minimalist as ever, but with rounder corners. Although it comes default with new black keys, you’ll still instantly recognize the Apple aesthetic.
Features
The top feature on this keyboard is the Touch ID biometric authentication button. It reads your fingerprint in an instant to securely identify you and unlocks your Mac. You can also configure your Mac settings to allow Touch ID to authenticate Apple Pay, iTunes, App Store and Apple Books transactions without a password. Touch ID also works with Safari’s AutoFill feature to fill in your stored user name and password and sign in, and with fast user switching.
Finally, the Touch ID functions as the lock button for your Mac. Pressing down on it will lock your Mac. Rest your finger on the button to unlock.
Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad also includes some updated shortcut buttons over its non-Touch ID predecessor:
- Spotlight search
- Siri
- Do not disturb
The numeric keypad boosts your productivity with spreadsheets and finance applications. The keyboard’s extended layout also features dedicated document navigation keys and full-sized arrow keys.
The keyboard wirelessly connects to Mac with Bluetooth. It can be paired via the Bluetooth settings in the Mac’s System Preferences, or simply by connecting the keyboard to Mac via the included USB-C to Lightning cable. The cable is also how you charge the keyboard. A full charge can last for about a month.
Extras
Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad includes a single accessory in the box: a braided USB-C to Lightning cable. The cable connects the keyboard to your Mac, which is how the keyboard is paired and charged. The braided cable is high quality and durable and color matched to your keyboard.
Drawbacks
This keyboard only works with Macs with Apple Silicon processors. This means it won’t work with Intel-based Macs or even M1-based iPads. That’s reflected in the product’s full name: Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad for Mac models with Apple silicon.
When you purchase this keyboard with an iMac, you can get it in the same color as your iMac. Yes, that means it even comes in yellow! Unfortunately you only get the silver color scheme with white or black keys if you buy it as a standalone option.
The Touch ID button is slightly slower compared with MacBooks with built-in Touch ID.
No backlight which is a common features for other keyboards in this price range.
Who should buy this keyboard
The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad is perfect keyboard for users who want the most Apple-y keyboard to go with their Mac. Users can expect the same high quality, dependability and to pay the same premium price. While there are many other keyboards for Mac available, you can’t go wrong with the Magic Keyboard especially now that it includes the convenience and security of Touch ID.
